Senior Compliance Consultant

Prior to co-founding inUnison Consulting, Ms. Pass was a Senior Compliance Consultant for a national healthcare compliance company providing onsite regulatory compliance services to medical, dental, veterinary and funeral home professionals.

 

She has over 17 years of experience in guiding clients through the complicated regulatory compliance maze. Her areas of expertise include the HIPAA Privacy, Security, HITECH and Omnibus Rules; OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication and General Industry Rules; workplace safety; infection prevention; CDC guidelines; OIG Corporate Compliance (Fraud, Waste and Abuse); risk management; radiation safety; ADA; workplace harassment; and DEA laws.

 

Karen has conducted comprehensive compliance audits and provided pertinent onsite education and training for thousands of medical, dental, veterinary and funeral home professionals. She is uniquely qualified to assist an organization's management team and their staff members with the necessary steps to achieve compliance.

 

Dental Quality Assurance Auditor

Karen has also spent the last 13 years as a Dental Quality Assurance Auditor, conducting hundreds of onsite dental practice assessments and patient record analyses for practitioners participating in dental managed care networks through major dental insurers. Quality Assurance Audits require a careful evaluation of an organization's clinical protocols and a close examination of selected patient dental records to ensure that the accepted Standard of Care established by the ADA is met. 

 

Regional Director of Operations

Before focusing on healthcare compliance full-time, Karen served as the Regional Director of Operations for Spectrascan Health Services, Inc., effectively managing  imaging centers for medical practices in the Northeast. In addition to employee staffing and supervision, she was responsible for the success of each facility's MQSA mammography accreditation and compliance program and annual FDA facility inspections.

 

Professional Affiliations and Education

Ms. Pass is board-certified in both Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Radiologic Technology with a Mammography Certification.

 

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Arts from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL.

 

She is a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

 

Compliance Consultant / Research and Education Specialist

Susan's past experience includes 17 successful years performing client consulting services for a national healthcare compliance company. She completed hundreds of on-site assessments and trainings; provided in-house client consulting services and created compliance products that were used consistently by several leading healthcare organizations, prominent multi-specialty practices, veterinarian practices, and funeral homes.

 

She was responsible for researching, developing, and ensuring consistency and accuracy in client policy and procedure manuals, and creating site assessment and educational tools for onsite / online learning. She provided content support for Compliance Consultants / operations / sales / marketing / website and IT. Products included HIPAA / HITECH / Omnibus; OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication and General Industry Rules regulations; workplace safety and infection control; CDC guidelines; OIG Corporate Compliance (Fraud, Waste and Abuse); Identity Theft law, risk management; radiation safety, ADA, state employee workplace harassment policies, and DEA laws. She has authored hundreds of compliance advisories and blogs on the above subjects, including for AAOE.

 

With this company, Susan designed and managed the CEU credit approval program and web-based document client portal. She was also instrumental in the organizational restructuring of the company.

 

Radiology Administrator

Prior to her years in compliance, she spent ten years as a private practice Radiology Administrator, responsible 

for operations, personnel, purchasing, facility expansion,contract negotiations and installation of capital 

equipment, and quality assurance / quality control. Her superior leadership resulted in an increased case load of over 45 percent during her tenure. She developed and implemented OSHA healthcare compliance programs, and passed annual FDA facility inspections. She was responsible for several successful accreditations under the federal Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and the State of Massachusetts Radiation Control Program.

 

Independent Radiology Management Consultant

In this role, she improved operations and image quality, coordinated and advised management in facility design planning for new construction, and assured compliance with state and third-party insurer requirements for large multi-site and multi-specialty healthcare practices.

 

Application Specialist

Her previous experience also includes performing as a mammography and digital stereotactic breast biopsy Application Specialist for a leading manufacturer, serving large hospitals.

 

Professional Affiliations and Education

Mrs. Bruce completed her degree at Northeastern University in radiologic sciences, with additional course work in business management, communications and human resources.

 

She is board-certified in radiology, with advanced certification in mammography, and holds a Massachusetts license in both modalities. She is a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
